The Voice In My Artwork

Lately it has occurred to me that just putting out a good word to people really can make a big difference in how it makes someone feel. Good words, good feelings, they go together. Words worth keeping, holding and thriving on, that is what I am talking about. Good vibrations, positive energy and all that great stuff that makes life worth it. The little things. A kind gesture. Kindness in the smallest form, a wave, like the butterfly thing. A wind to carry a wish. Keepsakes is where I have headed.

Some Things Are Priceless

I started making these very small pieces of miniature artwork. They have each been dated. They have each been numbered and they are loaded with uplifting gestures. A few kind words, a thought to ponder, a way to be in the now. They are small but designed to grab your attention. They have character and texture though they are small. These works of art will fit in your pocket or your purse. They are meant to hold on to, to cherish, to comfort. I made them to share.

The Cost of A Painting

All said and done it takes me about 20 minutes to finish one of these miniatures. I first cut out the shape or find a small piece of driftwood that will do the trick. Then I carefully sand, burnish and finish the wood's surface to get it ready for wood burning and painting.

The final step is to do the wood burned lettering and graphic design before painting the keepsake token. The hardest part is making sure the lettering is legible. The small size keeps me on my toes. When I am finished and the keepsake token is dry I wax and oil it and then buff it with a soft cloth. This helps protect the wood and the finished painting.

The cost of one of my miniature wood token paintings , well now that depends...I say it cost me 20 minutes, that is priceless.

My miniature wood tokens are keepsakes. I have made a few custom pieces and given them as gifts. I want to continue with this practice of making wishful tokens. It is a way for me to share my good wishes and positive energy. I intend to share them in lots. The tokens I make and do not sell or give away will be placed in the public.

My intention is to abandon each piece in an unsuspecting place and document it's farewell. With good intention in tow I suspect each piece to at randomly find it's way to new ownership.

Lost and Found Art for the Giving

So my series is under way. I have so far finished some thirty different pieces. Some I have grown more attached to than others. I made gifts of several pieces and have given them away. A birthday wish and a song of cheer. Both were excepted with open arms and lovely smiles. It made me feel good to know that I got the point across.

I could scream yippee yip yip hi ho to the top of the world. Small gestures make ripples, ripples make waves and waves wipe stuff out. I am sending waves of light and inspiration, tokens of joy and happiness words with smiles and magic medicine. It is all good. It is all about the love.

That is my favorite saying. It is what I really believe in. This work is not about the art, it is about the love in the art. This is about the gesture. This is about the simple things in life. This is about the little things that matter. Designed at Adrift Art Studio just to make you smile for a moment....then share it....

I love this idea, I carry a rock with me every day that says IMAGINE. I can only Imagine what your token will do for individuals. So many people will be touched and I hope that someday when I am home in Indiana I find your artwork.

What a magnificent idea -- and your art work is delightful, too. It crossed my mind how these might be treasured mightily by folks in nursing homes (but I bet you've already thought of that)! In any event, congratulations on your kind and giving nature and your art. Great Hub and I voted it up. Best, Sis
