SKIN E. CHIK Meets Chic N. LyL As, Windy Plots To Keep Her Eggster On The Farm : May 2008

SKIN E. CHIK is gaining popularity and many people have inquired about what brought me to write this story and do this artwork. In the last episode....

• SKIN E. enjoyed a going away party from her Chicks of Flavor friends and then caught a flight to Chicago.
• Old Hen is feeling better.
• SKIN E. has cleaned up the roost.
• All the hatch payed SKIN E. a visit.
• Nightmares and daydreams are haunting her.
• Windy is plotting a scheme to keep SKIN E. CHIK on the farm.
• Time to meet Chic N. LyL

The plot begins. Windy wants to trick SKIN E. into staying in the Old Coop and forget about going back to Texas.

Thursday night rolled around and Windy gave the CHIK a call to remind her that they had a dinner date. The Old Hen was sticking her beak in where it did not belong. She wanted to know the who, what and where, of their intentions. She had grown very possessive of the CHIK in just a few short weeks. SKIN E. felt like she was being watched and monitored like a little bird.

Old Hen remembered how the two eggsters use to go off and not return for days and, when they did show up......By the grace of Big Bird in the Sky, they would be so juiced up on "the syrup" that they could hardly make their way. The eggsters would be laughing and singing and acting like they were possessed by Kernel Sanderson. SKYBIRD only knows how many chickens that evil old hen, had lead down the path of destruction. Old Hen was not going to have those antics played out in her coop.

Kernel Sanderson was well known for feeding chickens all the cocktails they could consume and then leading them straight to the skillet, where most would end their lives as fryers. Sanderson built a multi-million dollar business exploiting the fried chickens. She became famous overnight by building fancy red and white food stands across the country.They offered fried chicken as their main fare with a slogan stating "their chicken is so good it will make you want to slap your GrandMa".

Old Hen, not only warned her Hatch of the evil ways of Kernel Sanderson, she insisted that, with the first glimpse of trouble brewing, entry into the Two-Step program became mandatory.This group was founded in 1935 to help those chickens who had taken the wrong path and somehow managed to avoid the road to destruction but lingered on the curb.

Chickens of all orientation are welcome to join and all they are asked to do is stick rigidly to a Two-Step Program.

1. Turn your life over to the control of The Big Bird In The Sky because you know that you are out of control with the abuse of corn syrup running your life.
2. Dance with all your heart.

Windy had been a proud member of The Program and was totally devoted to dancing. SKIN E. CHIK was thankful to see that her younger eggster had fought off the demons of the Sanderson Clan and found her redeemer. It was all good.

Little did she know that a plot had been stewed to get SKIN E. out on the town, for a festive night, at a seedy little coop. The location of choice was certain to keep the roosters at bay. It was Juana's No Cocks Acoop, for these chicks! Juana Bea Chicken owned and operated this wayside establishment, and he stuck to the rules by the book. Cold syrup on tap for those who liked the brew and a huge dance floor for those who wanted to stick to The Two-Step Program.

SKIN E. did not realize what was up when they got to the place. That was where she and Windy were suppose to hook up with Chic N. Lyl, was the extent of her knowledge. SKIN E. had no idea that this was a juice joint. The place had no advertising on the outside and was not located in a prominent part of the farm.

Most popcorn establishments did not need to make a fuss over signs and advertising. Chickens were quite peculiar about where they chose to dine out for the fluffy white stuff. Most just went to establishments run by friends and neighbors.That made the plan Windy had concocted perfect. She knew that SKIN E. was not familiar with things since the construction boom in the early 80's.The parking lot wasn't overflowing but after all it was a week night. Most folks stay home to roost during the week, what with work and everything. The truth is, there were only four cars in the lot. Chic N. Lyl had arrived promptly on time and after very brief introductions and hellos, Windy headed in the front door.

There were only three people in the joint and, Windy knew them all. It was old home week for this group of feathered friends,but it sorta left SKIN E. and LyL to find a seat on their own.The setting was awkward for the other two chickens as they waited for all the cackling and cooing to slow amongst the "long time , no see friends" They carried on and bounced around amongst each other for a good while before Windy made her way to the table where the two strangers sat in silence, watching the group of chicks strut and puff. Windy had the little chicken and this great big chicken in tow, as she came to the table, chattering a mile a minute.

They were laughing and calling out to the strangers in silence. What was it going to be? and this is my eggster and my friend and my old drinking cronies and it really was a confusing bubble of busy chicken energy. SKIN E. was not quick to remember names but she always remembered faces. She managed to get that the little chicken was the owner and the other was the bouncer and general bar mop.The night was slow and they were very thankful to have someone aboard. SKIN E. also took note that there was something just not quite right about Juana.

Juana Bea Chicken was small with a raspy cackle that squawked and squalled as she chirped. Her mannerisms were overly exaggerated and quite deliberate. Each movement she made was calculated and pronounced, Juana's very existence came off as a grand performance. It really got on SKIN E.'s edge just a bit. Later she discovered that Juana was in fact a cock in the wardrobe of a chicken. Juana's deepest wish was, for he to be the she, that was trapped inside of he. It was one confusing life for this little rooster.

They were pretty bored after the initial hellos settled down and Windy was left at the table with LyL and SKIN E. Windy no longer indulged in the juice and SKIN E. was annoyed that they had come here. Lyl was the only one having a cocktail and there was little to chirp about with Windy on the wagon. The best thing she could think of was to drop some cash into the jukebox. Music always has a way of making a party.

Windy went to the bar for change and started talking over there with HER friends. SKIN E. made some smart remark to Lyl about the way she kept going off and leaving them together. LyL laughed and let it go. She use to drink with Windy, a few years back and, she knew just how Windy could be. LyL told SKIN E. she was ready for another and she would be happy to get her a cold one too. SKIN E. declined the offer. She told LyL that it might encourage Windy to start on the syrup again. SKIN E. wanted no part of that NIGHTMARE. She thanked LyL just the same.

This great big chicken came from the store room where she must have been working in the back. She saw Windy and it was old home week all over. The only difference was this big chicken was touchy and feely and pushy as hell. It made SKIN E. nervous watching her. Next thing she knew they were all three back at the table and Windy was headed to the jukebox. No sooner did the music start to play and Windy was on the dance floor. She took a spin across the floor alone and, whispered something to the great big chicken who was now mopping a back section of the joint.

All of a sudden the music started shakin and the Great Big Chicken snatched SKIN E. right out of her chair before she knew what hit her. SKIN E.'s feet never hit the floor. She was tossed and turned like a yo-yo on a string. That big bird had a grip on her like a bear and she was touchin and squeezin and pushin and pullin and kissin and huggin......YUCK!!!!!!!!......... was all that SKIN E. could think. The situation was so surrealistic that SKIN E. could only hold on for dear life. Why the centrifugal force alone was enough to make her head swim. It was an ugly situation, but that big chicken was having a ball, and poor SKIN E.'s was just trying to survive it, she was praying in her head, "Dear SKYBIRD life is hard! Keep me safe."

"Thank-you to The SKYBIRD", when the music finally stopped. SKIN E. was sick to her stomach and her back felt like she had been hit by a steam roller. It was time to escape this coop while she was still able. But OH! NO! The other chicks were cackling their tail feathers off. They had a good old time with the Great Big Chicken and Hornee Chick making fun of her. She decided to catch her wits and make the best of it. It was a work night so she knew it would be time to go home soon enough.

Windy and LyL road home laughing all the way. Lyl left her ride and Windy drove since Lyl had indulged in a good bit of the syrup. Sure did not need trouble. Lyl had seen her share of the cell walls in her young life. Tonight it was best to play it safe and ride with Windy. They dropped SKIN E. off at the Old Hen's coop and left her to limp off in the dark. SKIN E. was bewildered and worn for what it was worth. She was looking forward to the nest that the Old Hen was providing.

Cozy in the nest and the dreams came. It was a very long night. She tossed and turned and dreamed her fears until she heard the first rooster crow. Now what to do?
